Line of Duty Dedications for Fallen CPS Members
The Calgary Police Service is continuing to ensure our fallen are remembered for the ultimate sacrifice they paid.
All CPS employees & retired CPS Veterans are invited to attend Line of Duty Dedication Services.
If you cannot attend these Service of Remembrance, please take a moment to contemplate their ultimate sacrifice.
The life of a police officer can be ended at a moment’s notice.
Their loss shall be forever remembered.
It has been a great transition to having the Ceremonial Unit officiate and attendance has been rising.
In hopes to continue to improve attendance, here is part of the 2016 calendar for fallen.

A store clerk refused to sell airplane glue to a customer who had been making noticeable purchases of the product.
When refused the customer became abusive. The police responded to a call and were directed to a suspects residence. The residence was at one time a garage. By the time backup had arrived the suspect had barricaded himself in the grease pit along with an automatic rifle. Detective Davidson died from a bullet shot in the neck. Six officers lay wounded, two seriously. The suspect had a history of Mental Illness and drug abuse. The suspect died at the scene after he was flushed from the garage by an armoured personnel carrier. The suspect's nose was so lined with glue Tear gas was ineffective. To honour his memory and recognize the ultimate sacrifice Detective Davidson made for his profession, a Service of Remembrance was held December 20 at 12:00 noon at the CPS Chapel with RSM Robert Patterson officiating.

STAFF SERGEANT KEITH HARRISON - MARCH 12, 1976
On March 12, 1976, Staff Sergeant Keith Harrison died in the line of duty. Staff Sergeant Harrison responded to a holdup alarm at a nearby credit union. He attempted to follow the culprits’ vehicle as it left the scene.
Realizing they were being followed, the suspects forced a confrontation with the officer. A shootout ensued and Staff Sergeant Harrison was shot in the abdomen. He died hours later on the operating table. Staff Sergeant Harrison, a 16-year veteran, was 40 years old at the time and was survived by his wife and two teenage children. On Thursday, March 9, 2017, the granite plaque dedicated to Staff Sergeant Harrison will be taken down from the Wall of Honour for the anniversary of his line of duty death. It will be placed on the Remembrance Table along with the memorial register, a candle and a bouquet of flowers. A Service of Remembrance will be held on March 9 at 12 p.m., in the CPS Chapel with Regimental Sergeant Major Rob Patterson honouring his memory. Please take a moment to contemplate Staff Sergeant Harrison and feel free to attend the CPS Chapel starting tomorrow to sign the memorial register dedicated in his memory.
